Dubai data centre tycoon backs new MTN company
- Dubai data centre tycoon Tarek Al Ashram is backing a new MTN company called Africa Data Hub to develop data centers for artificial intelligence on the continent.
- The venture aims to build facilities in Nigeria and South Africa to process MTN's own workflows and rent out capacity to hyperscalers, other enterprise businesses and governments.
- The move is part of a strategy by MTN to generate future revenue streams through AI and to grab a share of the income stream from hyper-scalers like Microsoft and Alibaba Group.
