South Africa getting R292 million supercomputer
- South Africa is getting a new supercomputer that is approximately 300% more powerful than its current system, with a budget of R292 million.
- The new system will be overseen and financed by the National Integrated Cyberinfrastructure System (NICIS) and is expected to be live by the end of November 2026.
- The upgrade is part of a phased approach to maintain continuity of national research-computing services while the new platform is commissioned, tested and transitioned into full production use.
