End of an era for Nissan in South Africa

• Nissan has officially handed over its Rosslyn production plant in Pretoria to Chinese automotive giant Chery, marking the end of more than 60 years of manufacturing in South Africa.
• The handover was a result of Nissan's declining sales in South Africa, with Chery dominating Nissan's local numbers since March 2025 and Nissan's exports experiencing a 90% decline in 12 months.
• Chery plans to produce 50,000 units per annum once the site is running at full capacity and has retained all of Nissan's 692 former employees, with expectations to create 3,000 new direct jobs at the site.
