New R18 billion ‘city’ being built next door to South Africa’s richest area
- The R18 billion 'city' being built next door to South Africa's richest area is a mixed-use precinct called Bankenveld District City, which will include residential, commercial, retail, industrial, educational, and healthcare facilities.
- The project is being developed by a partnership of Eris Property Group, Calgro M3, Improvon, and Nedbank on a 290-hectare site in Sandton, Johannesburg, with construction already underway.
- The first phase of the project, expected to be completed by February 2027, will deliver 6,000 residential units and 95,000 m² of commercial space, with the full development providing at least 20,000 housing opportunities over time.
