R2-billion tyre factory on the cards for important South African car-building city

• A R2-billion tyre factory is proposed for the Coega Special Economic Zone in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa, as part of a deal with the Sailun Group.
• The proposed facility, which would supply the Southern African Customs Union and broader sub-Saharan African market, would include a 20-hectare manufacturing site with an estimated production footprint of 100,000 square metres and incorporate renewable energy generation.
• The investment is expected to create around 200 direct jobs initially, increasing to 800 permanent jobs as the facility expands, and over 1,200 direct employment opportunities across supporting industries.
