• The new online system for smart IDs in South Africa allows people to locate their nearest participating bank branch for smart ID applications.
• The system is part of the Home Affairs Digital Partnership, which has already seen over 500,000 South Africans apply for smart ID cards since its launch on 9 March 2026.
• The expansion of the Digital Partnership programme is expected to continue, with additional branches being added in real time, and FNB planning to expand its service to 240 branches nationwide by December 2026.
