First of South Africa’s two ‘extra’ public holidays coming next week
- The first of South Africa's two 'extra' public holidays is on Monday, 10 August, due to National Women's Day falling on a Sunday this year.
- The Public Holidays Act 36 of 1994 states that when a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday automatically becomes a public holiday.
- The additional holiday will give South Africans a long weekend, and the second 'extra' public holiday is expected on Wednesday, 4 November, for the 2026 local government elections.
