South African motorists could be paying R508 less per tank of petrol
- South African motorists could pay up to R508 less per tank of petrol if the price did not include the Road Accident Fund (RAF) and the general fuel levy (GFL).
- The review of South Africa's fuel price formula is planned to be completed by March 2027, as part of the mineral and petroleum resources department's Annual Performance Plan for the 2026/27 financial year.
- The review aims to determine where the impact on consumers can be reduced by scrutinising administered prices, including the price formula, and identifying inefficiencies in wholesale margins, retail margins, storage costs, and distribution costs.
