• The shortage is attributed to poor planning and outdated technology, with the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) CEO Wayne Duvenage stating that the issue is a symptom of a wider national dysfunction in the licensing system.
• Motorists are being advised to renew their licences as early as possible within the three-month renewal window, and to continue putting pressure on the government to modernise the system and extend the driver's licence renewal period to 10 years.
