Transport minister pushes mayors of South African towns and cities to sign traffic fine deals with the Post Office
- The Post Office has been approved to deliver traffic fine notices electronically under the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) system, with overall service level agreement (SLA) performance currently standing at approximately 80%.
- Numerous South African municipalities have yet to conclude their respective SLAs with the Post Office, and engagements between the Post Office, the Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA), and relevant implementing authorities have continued.
- The Post Office regards its serving of AARTO notices as a critical revenue source for the ailing state entity, with President Cyril Ramaphosa approving the system's rollout to 60 municipalities on 1 July 2026.
