Government launches new digital system to target suspicious vehicles
- The Vehicle Targeting System (VTS) has recovered 83 vehicles valued at R46.6 million within six months of its launch.
- The system uses a digital vehicle targeting system to identify suspicious vehicles before they reach border officials, replacing random manual inspections.
- The VTS was implemented at six ports of entry, including Lebombo, Beitbridge, and Ficksburg, with cameras installed to read registration plates and a central system checking against records of stolen vehicles and potentially fraudulent ownership records.
