SARS gives R239 billion ‘gift’ to taxpayers

• SARS processed over R239 billion in refunds to taxpayers this year.
• The new revised estimate for tax collections is a record R2.144 trillion, an increase of R17.1 billion compared to the February 2026 Budget estimate.
• SARS Commissioner Johnstone Makhubu noted that achieving the revised revenue estimate will require more sustained collection and compliance efforts, as well as government and taxpayer participation.
