Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana gets a R54.1 billion gift

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has received a significant windfall of R54.1 billion, exceeding the state's revised gross tax revenue projections by nearly three times. This surge in revenue, driven by an upward revision of R17.1 billion, will propel the state's revenue over the next two years by a total of R70.8 billion. As a result, the Treasury will boost its 2026/27 expenditure by R45.5 billion to address pressing spending items, including disaster relief and fuel levy relief.
