Good news about iconic South African company that Eskom put on ice for 14 years
- Eskom has made progress in selling its stake in Pebble Bed Modular Reactor SOC (PBMR) to the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa)
- PBMR was established in 1999 to design and build novel reactors based on licensed pebble-bed nuclear power generation technology, and was supported by several stakeholders including Eskom and the South African government
- The sale marks the end of a 14-year period where PBMR was essentially dormant, and will allow the company to revive its nuclear reactor project
