Eskom launches first public electric car chargers in two large South African malls
- Eskom has launched its first public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga and The Pavilion Shopping Centre in Durban.
- The two stations boast two fast direct current (DC) charging guns supporting speeds of up to 120kW and a single alternating current (AC) port with speeds up to 22kW.
- Only two of the 55 planned public EV charging stations have launched, amid concerns about Eskom's dominance in the sector and potential unfair advantages for businesses that install its chargers.
