SARS announces important eFiling change
- SARS has amended the existing rules of the Customs and Excise Act of 1964, extending compliance timeframes from six to eighteen months for businesses involved in customs activities.
- The amendment applies to all traders and businesses that are registered or seeking accreditation under section 64E of the Customs and Excise Act of 1964, including importers, exporters, customs clearing agents, removers of goods in bond, and operators of licensed customs and excise warehouses.
- The new rule (Rule 64E.20) governs the process of transferring client accreditation details into SARS’s online electronic accreditation system via eFiling, and the update is effective retroactively from 1 September 2025.
