Eskom spent R233.4 billion to build a power station which is still not finished 18 years later
- Eskom now expects Kusile Power Station to be completed in the 2028 financial year after 18 years of construction.
- Kusile was planned as one of the largest coal-fired power stations in the world, and was intended to stabilise South Africa's power grid after load-shedding began in 2007.
- The project's delays and cost overruns were attributed to poor contractor performance, design flaws, and systemic overpayments for basic services.
