SARS nails 14 taxpayers over R4 million tax refunds
- 14 taxpayers tied to an alleged VAT refund fraud scheme, which ran to R4 million have been arrested and are appearing before the Siyabuswa Magistrates’ Court
- The arrests followed a criminal investigation by SARS into allegations that taxpayers had made fraudulent VAT refund claims through the SARS eFiling system in the name of an entity, as part of a broader national investigation under Project Jan Vas
- SARS Commissioner Dr Johnstone Makhubu issued a threat to criminals looking to defraud the service, saying that they will be caught
