New mandatory tax for anyone renewing their car licence discs in South Africa
South Africa's Road Accident Fund Levy is set to increase to R3.00 per litre, marking a significant shift in the country's approach to funding its road safety program. The move is aimed at addressing the fund's declining revenue, which fell by 5% to R48.1 billion in the 2025/26 financial year, largely due to reduced fuel volumes. The RAF is also exploring additional revenue sources, including levies on foreign-registered vehicles and vehicle registration, in a bid to bolster its finances.
