Say goodbye to spam calls in South Africa
- The National Opt-Out Registry has been launched by the National Consumer Commission (NCC) to protect consumers from unwanted direct marketing calls, SMSes, and other communications.
- The launch marks South Africa's entry into a growing group of nations that have adopted national opt-out or do-not-call registries, including the US, UK, Canada, India, Australia, Singapore, Nigeria, and several European jurisdictions.
- Direct marketers will be afforded the opportunity to clear their databases over 5 months from December 2026 at no cost, allowing them to understand the process and make necessary preparations to engage with the system.
