South Africa's Capitec bank has sold a staggering 27,000 smartphones over the past six months, as its mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) has experienced explosive growth. The bank's customers have significantly ramped up their mobile usage, with voice calls and data usage increasing by 1,829% and 2,350% respectively. This has resulted in a staggering 55.7 petabytes, or 55.7 million gigabytes, of mobile data being used since the launch of Capitec Connect, highlighting the bank's ambitious foray into the mobile industry.
