New shopping mall with a Shoprite, Boxer, and Clicks opens in the heart of the most valuable platinum reserve in the world

Malekane Mall, a 19,000 m² shopping complex, has opened in Tubatse, a region rich in platinum resources, sparking concerns over environmental impact. The mall's 60 stores, including Shoprite, Boxer, and Clicks, are set to support local economic development, but the area's unique geology and 20 mine operations raise questions about the mall's sustainability. Despite this, the mall's development has created 700 permanent jobs and invested significantly in local labour and materials, a commitment that may help mitigate the environmental concerns.
